She stopped on the corner, obviously in the middle of a run, eyes glued to the phone. Everybody’s lost in their thoughts and there’s no one helping.
gentle visitors, sticky reminders
My worries how to move all my junk into the new apartment have been magically solved by a helping hand from an almost complete stranger. It was fitting for her to be one of my first guests. Ah, ever so unpredictable Germans.
I like how quickly have sticky notes invaded my kitchen wall, with all the lists and notes that have no reason to stay in my head. I hope this trend continues.
Items, not life
It’s sad how sometimes I would say things like “I packed all my life into a backpack”. It would be horrible if all my life was about were my items - the sentence itself would bear horror in it. For me, it was a huge relief - being able to pack all the junk I comfortably need (and a lot more than that) into one backpack. But that was 2 years back. Now I have a car full of things, and it’s not an ideal scenario. The more items you have, the more worries you have. I’m not built for hoarding things. Humans aren’t.
Simple pleasures are all about perspective.
Simple pleasures IV
I offered my landlord pizza, and even when she saw me only twice in her life, she offered to help me move with their car. Later she also brought these wonderful plates, cups and tiny spoons for me to use. Needless to say, I love Estonians more and more.
Simple pleasures III
Oh, the decay and the details, and the decay!
Erika (Erika): Eerika in 1920. Woman’s first name but, given its then German designation as Erikastrasse (heather street), perhaps named after the shrub that may well have grown on the Kalamaja marshes reclaimed in 1898. Exactly 200 years earlier, on a 1698 map of “Stadt Räfwal”, we read Feuchte und Heidigste Fiehtriften, meaning damp and heathery cattle pasture or commons. Renamed (1953-1990) as Nahhimovi P. during the Soviet Era.
damage? damage. Also Väike-Õismäe.
Simple pleasures II
I haven’t even realized it’s been over a year since I took my last B&W pictures with an SLR. I obviously lost the touch and need to remember how to work with B&W, but some of the pictures are turned out okay. I’ll post more in the coming days after I upload them to Flickr (I have them scanned in 30MPix) and post some cropped details with each interesting picture.
